Water Traces
SOCIAL AND WATER FOOTPRINT PROJECT
Project to extend the cooperation between Instituto-E, IMELS - Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land, and Sea and Forum of the Americas to map the water footprint of four Osklen products.
The specialists traveled to different regions of Brazil - Midwest, Southeast, and South - to verify the amount of water used in the different stages of planting and manufacturing each of these pieces, as well as the social efforts that go together with these production chains. Throughout the analysis, good practices were identified, whether in the use of water resources, such as reuse or adequate post-production treatment, or in social projects.
This initiative aimed to identify gaps in the improvement of water consumption along the production chain as well as introduce improvements in the production and living conditions of the producing communities.
The importance of highlighting what is done with water in a major economic activity such as the fashion sector is evident when we consider that water is finite and difficult to access for more than a billion people in the world. Caring for this natural resource is imperative and one of the ways to exercise this care is to draw attention to its presence in production processes, exactly as the Water Traces project does, in an unprecedented way.
